Prostration Brings Peace and Wellbeing

         By Song Gan, Singapore

During class, Grandmaster JinBodhi’s compassion and words of wisdom made me realize that illnesses arise from negative emotions and inappropriate behavior.

I used to be an impatient person with a very bad temper. My moods were unstable and I would make a mountain out of a molehill, both in my personal life and at work. When faced with communication challenges in dealing with colleagues, I would react violently. I’ve even been known to throw a phone when angry.

Miseries Stemming From a Bad Temper

At home, I demanded family members meet my expectations. My children often lied to me to avoid my wrath. My temperament and persistent irritability eventually led to a strained lower back, along with shoulder and neck pain. I even began to suffer from migraines. I often felt exhausted and breathless. Just two hours a day of walking would cause a backache. When my lower-back pain was severe, I relied on muscle relaxants and massage to alleviate the ache.

My pain and stress eventually affected my sleep. I managed only three hours of rest a night. Often, the shoulder pain and backaches would wake me an hour into sleep, and two to three hours would pass before I’d drift off again. Sometimes, I even needed to wake my husband to help me relieve the pain with liniment. For almost four years, I suffered mentally and physically.

Regaining Health With Prostration

In 2011, after undergoing surgery to remove ovarian cysts, I began to experience physical weakness and irregular menstruation. This was a turning point that made me realize the importance of good health.

In August 2012, through my colleague’s recommendation, I signed up for Bodhi Meditation’s 8.5-Day Health & Happiness Retreat. During class, Grandmaster JinBodhi’s compassion and words of wisdom made me realize that illnesses arise from negative emotions and inappropriate behavior. Hence, I started to change myself. When faced with challenges, I held my impatience and temper in check, exercising more tolerance. I started seeing things from a different perspective and put myself in others’ shoes. I started guiding and nurturing my children, instead of using coercion.

After completing the Health & Happiness Retreat, I persevered in practicing full prostration for 30 minutes every day. My entire body felt very relaxed and at ease after every session. Thereafter, whenever I felt any bodily discomfort, I practiced full prostration. Since then, I have never needed to rely on my husband’s massages to help relieve pain. To maximize the benefits gained from full prostration, I extended my practice time to an hour daily. Through this, I shed four kilograms (8.8 pounds), my belly flattened and my waistline slimmed.

After practicing Energy Bagua and full prostration for a year, I gradually regained physical strength and vitality, and my overall health improved. I no longer feel tired, even if I go out shopping for a whole day. The tension and pain in my shoulders, neck and back are gone. My gait has become lighter and my breathing smoother. Every night I fall asleep within minutes, and slumber peacefully till dawn. My sleep time has doubled. Needless to say, I am overjoyed.

Through meditation, I’ve not only gained health, I’ve learned to change my way of thinking. My new mindset brings me great happiness. I have become less calculating and more empathetic. I smile more and speak positive words. In 2013, I became a volunteer at Bodhi Meditation. I hope through my diligent practice and earnest contribution, more people may enjoy the health and happiness of Bodhi Meditation.

The intent of the testimonial is to offer wellness information of a general nature. Individual results of practice may vary.
