In June 2010 I was knocked down by a forklift at work. The accident broke my left shinbone (tibia) and calf bone (fibula). A doctor performed a lower-limb wound debridement to clear blood clots and bone fragments. Eleven days later I underwent a six-hour surgery during which two titanium plates fastened with 12 screws were installed in my leg.

Devastating Post-Surgery Effects

Post-surgery, I was wheelchair-bound for a year. I developed surgery-related blockages in my blood vessels and had to take anticoagulants. I was told to limit my intake of green vegetables as their vitamin K content might counter the effectiveness of the medication. This change was extremely difficult for me — I’ve been a vegan since age 30.

When I was about 25, I started to suffer from chronic insomnia. I was only able to sleep for two to three hours a night. My insomnia became even worse after the accident, as I developed nocturia (frequent night urination). The medications I was taking necessitated increased water intake, resulting in the latter condition.

I was forced to limit my diet. I continued to suffer from severe acid reflux, which had begun years earlier. No words can describe my suffering. I thought the agony would never end.

During the retreat, I prostrated continuously for an hour. Ever since, I’ve been free of acid reflux.

Regaining My Health

After a year in the wheelchair, I began relearning to walk with the help of crutches. It had been a long time since I’d stood up. My limbs were very weak and taking even one step was difficult. My left leg felt numb and paralyzed, and I had to use my right leg to support my body.

Eventually, I could walk without crutches, but my health remained frail. In January 2013, I passed by a shop displaying Meditation & Health magazine. I read through it and was deeply fascinated by the contents. The section on losing weight through full prostration was particularly interesting to me, as I’d put on a lot of weight since the accident and had been yearning to slim down.

After learning full prostration at Singapore Bodhi Meditation Center, I began practicing at home. At first, my body ached and my practice lasted only 15 minutes each session. After much persistence I was able to endure for half an hour, even though I was troubled throughout by acid reflux. Three months later, my long-time wish had been fulfilled: My weight was down from 68 to 60 kilograms.

In May 2013, I attended the 8.5-Day Health & Happiness Retreat. On the second day, the quality of my sleep improved tremendously.I slept soundly through the night and felt very energetic upon waking. A week after the retreat, nocturia stopped occurring. During the retreat, I prostrated continuously for an hour. Ever since, I’ve been free of acid reflux.

Steady Steps

In May 2015 I participated in the Energy Bagua foundation course. In the beginning, my left leg was too weak to support my body and I had an unstable gait throughout the practice. Near the end of the course, my leg became stronger and I could walk steadily and fast.

My left leg has totally recovered, and I always feel energetic and refreshed. Now I can do household chores and look after my grandchildren without getting tired. As a volunteer at the center, I am living life to the fullest and feeling very blessed. My life of vibrant health and overflowing happiness is made possible by Bodhi Meditation.

The intent of the testimonial is to offer wellness information of a general nature. Individual results of practice may vary.
